| Removal of a Worm from the Ear |
| Old man Peter went with his two sons to a breeding display. No black grouse came. They started a fire next to a thick log. They rested; his son began to scream: "Come, come! Something has entered my ear!" The father and his other son jumped up and went over. While they were looking at it, it disapeared into his ear, their looking did no good. He said to his son: "Boil water!" His son hung the kettle over the fire. The old man peeled off a piece of birchbark and says to his son: "Bend this into bowls!" He himself chopped down a little birch tree and set up a sacrificial tree. The water started boiling, he poured it into the birch bowls and thus placed the boiling water seven times under the sacrificial tree. He prayed together with his son; now his son had fallen asleep. He said to his son: "Go, take a look at your brother, see how he's sleeping!" His son went over and he says to his father: "Come here, come here! His father ran over, the worm had come out of his ear and was crawling down. He caught it and threw it away. His son stood up, blood is flowing out of his ear. |

| Der Alte Peter ging mit seinen zwei Söhnen zur Birkhahnbalz. Es kamen keine Birkhähne. Sie machten neben einem dicken gefällten Baumstamm ein Feuer. Sie ruhten; sein Sohn begann zu schreien: "Komm, komm! Irgendetwas ist in mein Ohr hineingekommen!" Der Vater und sein anderer Sohn sprangen auf und gingen hinüber zu ihm. Als sie hinsahen, verschwand es in seinem Ohr, wie sehr sie auch suchten. Er sagte zu seinem Sohn: "Koche Wasser!" Sein Sohn hängte den Wasserkessel über das Wasser. Der Alte zog ein Stück Birkenrinde ab und sagte zu seinem Sohn: "Binde das zu Körbchen zusammen!" Er selber fällte einen kleinen Birkenbaum und stellte einen Opferbaum auf. Das Wasser begann zu kochen, er goss es in die Rindenkörbchen und stellte das kochende Wasser siebenmal unter den Opferbaum. Er betete mit seinem Sohn; sein Sohn war nun eingeschlafen. Er sagte zu seinem Sohn: "Geh hin, schau nach deinem Bruder, sieh nach, wie er schläft!" Sein Sohn ging hin und sagte zu seinem Vater: "Komm her, komm her!" Sein Vater lief hin, der Wurm war aus dem Ohr herausgekommen und kriecht nun hinunter. Er fing ihn und warf ihn weg. Sein Sohn ist aufgestanden, aus seinem Ohr fließt Blut. |
